Timothy Cole & George Floyd Memorial Scholarships
With the support and guidance from Texas Tech administration, We, the Black Student Association have created two endowed scholarships for current and future Red Raiders. One in memory of army veteran, Timothy Cole, a Black man who attended Texas Tech in the mid 1980s. Cole died in prison serving a 25 year sentence for a rape charge that he was wrongfully convicted of. The other scholarship in memory of George Floyd, a man who was murdered unjustly by the hands of law enforcement in Minneapolis, MN. Floyd’s death sparked a shift in our world, one that opened many people’s eyes to systemic racism, police brutality, and racial injustice that affects the lives of Black and brown bodies around the world; it is important for us to encompass these struggles through these scholarships.
